Funky Baby Quilt

I've been considering the quilts I make practice. I know I am not very good at this so I am not ready to go on a therapeutic fabulous fabric run. I have been working with fabrics I find on sale at Joann's. I also have to make due with an inexpensive Brother Sewing Machine my husband bought for me a several years ago. I buy polyester blankets from Wal-Mart for $5 to use as batting. After a few washes it is as soft and flexible as my son's Warm & Natural filled quilt.
My sister had some extra fabric to give me when we visited her in Vegas. I didn't know what I would use it for, but I brought it home anyway. The night I came home, a Thursday, my husband told me of a baby shower we had been invited to. Realizing we only had money for his fuel for work, I had to make do with what I had on hand.
Here is the result of my three day frenzy:

Here, I carefully stacked my 8" squares and used a rotary cutter to cut through the layers. I was then able to put together 8 blocks at time using chain piecing. This quilt came together so quickly. I am impressing myself with the improvement I see in my free motion skills.

I had a couple extra blocks and used them to make quilted pillows.

As I was taking pictures, Mr. Funny Face jumped in to share his talents.
